Chinese, US parties hold third high-level talks

BEIJING - Senior officials of the Communist Party of China (CPC ) and the Democratic and Republican parties of the United States held the third high-level dialogue on Tuesday in Beijing .The dialogue was co-chaired by Wang Jiarui , head of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee , and former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and former US Assistant Secretary of State Richard Williamson , representing the Democratic and the Republican parties , respectively ."The two sides conducted candid and in-depth exchanges on governance philosophy and China-US relations as well as major international and regional issues of common concern ,"according to a press release issued after the meeting . The Chinese side reiterated China 's principles and position on the Taiwan issue and demanded the US take practical measures to maintain the overall situation of bilateral ties as well as peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait , said the release .The high-level dialogue mechanism between the two countries ' political parties was started at the end of March 2010 and the second dialogue was held in Washington last December .China Politics Garden
China: Diaoyu Island research under sovereignty

BEIJING - China said on Tuesday that it is an exercise of its legitimate sovereignty for relevant Chinese ships to conduct normal marine research in the waters near Diaoyu Island .Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei made the remarks at a daily press briefing when asked to comment on China 's recent scientific survey activity in the waters near Diaoyu Island ."Diaoyu Island and its adjacent islands have been Chinese territory since ancient time , and China has indisputable sovereignty over them ," Hong added .

HK govt wins lawsuit to build HK-Zhuhai-Macao bridge

HONG KONG - The Hong Kong government won a lawsuit in regard to its appeal against a lower court ruling that put down the environmental permit for the building of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao bridge , the city 's Court of Appeal made the judgment on Tuesday .The Hong Kong Environmental Protection Department filed the appeal in May after its environmental permit issued to developers was quashed by the Court of First Instance which ruled in April that the department failed to offer a proper environmental impact assessment on the bridge project .A retired local resident earlier challenged the department 's decision on the bridge work in a judicial review , arguing the permit of the construction did not meet World Health Organization standards and would affect her health .The bridge being built across the Pearl River estuary , linking Hong Kong , Zhuhai and Macao ,has its Hong Kong section scheduled to start in late 2010 and to be completed in 2016. The estimated cost of the entire construction is 72.9 billion yuan ($11.4 billion ).China Politics Garden
