BEIJING - President Hu Jintao sent festive greetings to teachers ahead of national Teachers'Day, which falls on September 10, during his visit to Beijing No. 80 High School on Friday.
Hu told teachers at the school that he appreciates and respects their hard work and devotionand emphasized the importance of secondary school education, saying those students are in alife stage that's crucial to their healthy growth.
Hu encouraged teachers to keep improving their professional ethics and qualifications.
The president also met with students.
As students in the science club demonstrated the gadgets they've invented, Hu reminded allstudents to develop well-rounded capabilities, rather than focusing solely on academics.
The school has enrolled 20 Tibetan students each year since 2002. Hu conversed with them intheir dormitory, explaining that their presence in inland cities is part of the efforts to nurturetalent for Tibet.
Hu encouraged Tibetan students to seize the opportunity and work hard.
The school has a diverse study body, with over 300 students from 30 countries and regions. Huobserved a Chinese language class and commended the foreign students in their efforts tolearn Mandarin and encouraged them to be persistent in their studies and make many Chinesefriends.
