MINSK - China's top legislator Wu Bangguo met here Monday with Belarusian PresidentAlexander Lukashenko, pledging to boost cooperation in various fields and advance bilateralties.
"As the two countries are to mark the 20th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties next year,China-Belarus relationship now stands at new starting point and is facing new developmentopportunity," said Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress(NPC).
Wu is on a four-day official goodwill visit to Minsk starting from Saturday. Wu had previouslyconcluded his visit to Russia and will later visit Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan during his four-nation Eurasian tour.
"The two sides should push forward pragmatic cooperation in various fields and bring morebenefits to the two peoples," said Wu, adding that China is satisfied with current bilateral tiesthat are at an all time high.
For future development of bilateral ties, Wu proposed that, first, the two countries keep high-level exchanges to consolidate political trust and strengthen strategic cooperation.
Secondly, the two sides should strengthen strategic planning and coordination on majorprojects, appropriately regulate and guide enterprises cooperation, explore new cooperativemodel and widen financing channels.
Wu also encouraged more cultural exchanges and technological innovation cooperationbetween the two countries.
China respects Belarus' efforts to continue its development path in conformity with its domesticsituation, and supports its efforts to safeguard the country's sovereignty, social stability,economic development and people's livelihood, said Wu.
Lukashenko appreciated China's assistance and help, saying China is the most reliable friendand partner of Belarus and it is a strategic choice of Belarus to develop friendly relations withChina.
Belarus is ready to deepen cooperation with China in areas like trade, technology, educationand culture, said Lukashenko, adding that his country firmly adheres to the One-China policyand will stand side by side with the Chinese people on issues concerning China's coreinterests.
Wu and Lukashenko also exchanged views on current international situations, agreeing tocontinue coordination on issues like the UN reform, energy and food security and climatechange in a bid to maintain common interests and make contribution to world peace,development and stability.
Also on Monday, Wu and Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich attended theinauguration ceremony of a power plant built by the Chinese companies in Minsk.
